Continuing Professional Education

Continuing Professional Education(CPE) consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, competence, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CPE’s is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public.

Programmes/Workshops offered by UMDC for CPE

1. Certificate in Teaching and Learning (CTL)

Goals and objectives

The Certificate in Teaching and Learning is a 6-month course for Health Professions Education Faculty to understand and polish basic level skills in medical teaching , learning and assessment. UMDC has conducted 5 batches of this programme successfully under the excellent leadership of Prof. Dr Tanzeela Khalid.

Eligibility criteria

16 years of education in Medical/Allied Health programme

2. Basics of Teaching and Learning (BTL)

Goals and objectives

To acquaint newly induced Health Professionals Educators with basic teaching and learning skills.

Total duration of programme

3 days

Eligibility criteria

Newly inducted faculty in MBBS, BDS, DPT, OD, DDNS, Nursing and other Health sciences.

3. Basic Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Courses

Goals and objectives

The objective of BLS is to equip health professionals with basic skills to perform resuscitation. Neonatal Life support is a course conducted with the objective of teaching resuscitation skills for neonates to residents and students. These programmes are coordinated by Dr.Humaira, AP Gynecology Department and Prof.Dr. Aisha Sajid ,HOD Pediatrics.

2-3 hours session

4. UniLearn Medical Education Programmes

Goals and objectives

UniLearn is an international organization of Medical Education with the aim of providing quality courses with new and innovative perspectives spearheaded by leading international Health Professions Education leaders. UniLearn has a partnership with TUF and UMDC to support and provide its courses to our faculty at a reduced rate. Currently the courses being offered are:

A-HPEC : Certificate of Assessment in Health Professions Education

R-HPEC : Certificate of Research in Health Professions Education

5. MedEdTalks

Goals and objectives

MedEd Talks is a webinar series conducted by UMDC in collaboration with AMEE ( Association of Medical Education in Europe) which aims at collaboration, understanding and development of new horizons in Medical Education.

6. Symposias/Conferences and workshops

Conferences , Symposias and Workshops are a regular feature of the CPE activities of UMDC with different departments celebrating different WHO health days, conducting technical workshop and symposia.

7. JCME (Journal Club of Medical Education)

The Journal Club of Medical Education was started in 2012 under the leadership of Prof.Dr.Tanzeela Khalid , this was later expanded to include all basic sciences in 2016. The journal club is a monthly activity for the faculty to discuss latest research and development.
