Forensic Medicine for MBBS Students
At UMDC, Forensic Medicine in the medical curriculum is taught during the 3rd year of MBBS. Students learn through lectures, small group discussions, tutorials and medico-legal visits. The subject train the students to:
- Understand and respect legal and ethical obligations of doctors.
- Competently interpret and report medico-legal examinations and autopsies.
- Analyze injuries, poisoning cases, deaths from suspicious or violent causes.
- Collect and preserve evidence (biological or trace), perform basic forensic- toxicological/serological work, and produce medico-legal reports.
- Work in collaboration with law enforcement or legal bodies when required
- Provide expert medical opinion in courts by giving testimony.
