Dengue fever is a vector borne disease spread by the bite of the mosquito infected with the dengue Virus. Dengue is now endemic in Pakistan and Monsoon Season is a time when maximum number of cases are reported every year in Pakistan. To join hand with the District Government of Faisalabad, Department of Community Medicine, UMDC observed “Dengue Awareness Week” from August 22 to August 27, 2022.

Dr Sumera Riaz HoD Community Medicine is sharing her views on "Dengue Awareness"

During this campaign of dengue awareness, health education messages were given to the 3rd year MBBS students of University Medical & Dental College, school children of Govt Girls High School, Sargodha Road, University Cambridge School and in SOS village. During this awareness campaign, Dr Sumera Riaz, Associate Prof and Head Department of Community Medicine, Dr Asia Zafar, Dr Sana Nasir and Dr Anayza, Demonstrators from Community Medicine & 4th year MBBS students enthusiastically participated. They educated the audience about the symptoms of the dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever. They guided the audience about various measures to protect themselves from dengue mosquito bite and ways to keep their environment clean to stop dengue mosquito larva breeding. Community Medicine team guided the audience that they should not use Aspirin and Brufen tablet if they suspect dengue fever symptoms. These two tablets increase the bleeding tendency and can worsen the condition. There is no treatment available for dengue fever, our only option is prevention. Let’s join hands to curb this menace from our society.
