Optimizing neonatal respiratory care: surfactant administration and airway management

A workshop on Optimizing Neonatal Respiratory Care: Surfactant Administration and Airway Management, was organized at University Medical and Dental College, Faisalabad, on 29th August, 2025 by Department of Pediatrics, Madina Teaching Hospital.
The event featured eminent speakers including Prof Dr Aisha Sajid, HOD Pediatrics, MTH, and Prof Dr Sohaib Riaz, who shared their expertise in neonatal respiratory care. Workshop highlighted key strategies for improving outcomes in preterm and term neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).

Workshop was graced by the presence of esteemed Guests including:

  • Prof Dr Asghar Butt, Regional Director CPSP, Faisalabad
  • Prof Dr Hina Ayesha, President PPA Punjab
  • Prof Dr Sadia Zafar, HOD Pediatrics Unit 1, Allied Hospital, Faisalabad

The distinguished speakers emphasized the importance of surfactant replacement therapy in reducing mortality and respiratory morbidity in preterm neonates.

They also highlighted that Effective airway management is crucial in neonatal respiratory care. Less Invasive Surfactant Administration (LISA) techniques along with  European guidelines for surfactant replacement therapy in neonates were discussed which laid stress on the importance of proper patient selection, dosing, and administration techniques.  Prof Dr Akram Malik, Principal UMDC, presented souvenirs to the guests.
