In observance of World No Tobacco Day, the Department of Community Medicine organized an impactful seminar, focusing on the hidden dangers of vaping under the theme "Nicotine in Disguise: Vaping is Still Tobacco." The keynote speaker Dr Muhammad Tahir Bashir, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Oncology at Faisalabad Medical University, emphasized the critical health risks associated with vaping, warning that e-cigarettes, often marketed as safer alternatives, still deliver harmful nicotine and carcinogens, making them far from safe. The seminar was held under the supervision of Dr Sumera Riaz, Head, Department of Community Medicine, UMDC, who has been actively engaged in raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and vaping among youth. Highlighting the theme "Nicotine in Disguise," the seminar aimed to raise awareness about the evolving face of tobacco products and their detrimental effects on youth and public health. The session included alarming statistics and real-world case studies linking vaping to respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular risks, and increased chances of addiction among teenagers. MBBS Students also displayed documentaries to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use. This initiative reinforced the global call to action under the World Health Organization’s campaign for World No Tobacco Day, advocating stronger policies and educational efforts to counteract the tobacco industry's tactics and protect future generations from nicotine dependency.
