UMDC Organizes Free Medical Camp to Tackle Health and Nutrition Challenges Among School children

The Department of Community Medicine recently organized a comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Free Medical Camp at Government Girls High School, Sargodha Road, Faisalabad. This initiative focused on improving the health and well-being of female students by offering a wide range of medical services to approximately 100 schoolchildren.

Doctors from the Pediatric Department of Madinah Teaching Hospital provided clinical examinations, addressing common health concerns such as pallor, pharyngitis, and scabies. Additionally, 7th Semester Optometry students conducted detailed eyesight check-ups, ensuring that vision issues were promptly identified and managed.

Nutritional surveillance was another critical component of the camp, led by 4th-year MBBS students from UMDC. The team measured students' height, weight, and mid-arm circumference and calculated their Body Mass Index (BMI). This assessment was supplemented by a dietary survey to understand the causes of malnutrition. The findings were concerning: 50% of the students were classified as underweight or stunted, highlighting the urgent need for nutritional interventions.

This medical camp underscored the significant health challenges facing schoolchildren, emphasizing the importance of regular health screenings, nutritional evaluations, and targeted support. The Department of Community Medicine remains dedicated to providing essential healthcare services to underserved communities and improving the health outcomes of young students. Such initiatives are crucial in promoting a healthier future for the next generation.
