World Blood Donor Day Seminar 2026

On 14 June, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated globally as a tribute to the millions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give others a second chance at life. Their generosity saves lives, strengthens communities, and embodies the spirit of solidarity.

The Department of Pathology, University Medical & Dental College (UMDC), has been observing this day through awareness lectures, seminars, blood donation drives, and quiz competitions. These activities aim to encourage both new and existing donors, highlight the positive impact of blood donation on the health and well-being of others, and raise public awareness about the critical need for blood and plasma donations and their life-saving impact on patients.

This year, the Department of Pathology celebrated World Blood Donor Day with a seminar aimed at raising awareness about the importance of safe blood donation and proper transfusion practices under the theme: “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”

The event was enriched by the presence of the guest speaker, Dr Ahmad Umair Virk, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Children Hospital & Institute of Child Health, Faisalabad. The event was also graced by Prof Dr Tanzeela Khalid, Head of the Department of Dermatology and Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

Dr Sadia Ijaz, Head of the Blood Donation Society, UMDC, provided a comprehensive overview of the society’s mission and recent activities. This was followed by a role-play presentation by second-year students emphasizing the importance of blood donation. A quiz competition among third-year students was also conducted as part of the event.

Awards were presented to the chief guest, the President, and the former President of the society. The ceremony also included sash distribution and the oath-taking of the newly elected cabinet.

At the conclusion of the event, Dr Shazia Aslam, Head of the Department of Pathology, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed her appreciation to the UMDC Blood Donation Society team, faculty members, and supporting staff for their contributions to the successful organization of the event.
