Malaria remains a global challenge, with 263 million cases and 597,000 deaths reported in 2023 alone. The Department of Community Medicine at UMDC commemorated World Malaria Day 2025 with an impactful seminar that brought together students, faculty, and public health experts in a shared mission: to raise awareness, spark innovation, and strengthen community action against malaria.
Dr. Nosheen Safdar, Technical Officer at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, joined the event virtually from Brazzaville, Congo. A prominent figure in public health, she shared valuable insights on “Malaria – An Ancient Scourge.”
Dr. Azmat Abbas, District Health Officer (Preventive Services), DHA Faisalabad, highlighted the field-level efforts being implemented in the region to control malaria.
Adding to the academic richness of the event, UMDC students delivered an excellent presentation on the parasitology and clinical workup of malaria, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, clinical vigilance, and timely treatment in saving lives and preventing complications such as cerebral malaria.
