The Department of Biochemistry at UMDC was established in 2003 under the leadership of its founding head, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali. Since then, the department has grown into a dynamic center of learning, research, and academic excellence, offering programs and teaching support across MBBS, BDS, and various biological sciences disciplines.
A sound understanding of Biochemistry is essential for all fields of health and life sciences. The major objective of the department is to help students understand the chemical processes at the molecular level that govern all living organisms. As medicine and dentistry continue to evolve, the role of biochemistry becomes even more crucial in interpreting complex biological systems and diseases.
The department currently provides undergraduate education for:
In addition to the medical and dental programs, the department also offers advanced academic degrees, including BS, MPhil, and PhD in Biochemistry. Through these programs, UMDC aims to develop highly trained professionals and researchers who can contribute meaningfully to the fields of biomedical sciences and public health, both nationally and globally.
The department uses a variety of modern and interactive teaching strategies, including:
The department houses a state-of-the-art Biochemistry Laboratory, fully equipped for practical teaching:
These practical sessions are designed to help students develop a strong foundation in clinical biochemistry and diagnostics.
Our faculty comprises highly qualified, experienced, and committed professionals who are passionate about student development. They focus not only on academic excellence but also on nurturing leadership, ethics, and critical thinking skills.
We aim to produce medical and research professionals with a deep understanding of biochemistry who can contribute to improving the quality of life through research, education, and service to the community. Our students are our pride, and we envision them as future leaders in the advancement of medicine, dentistry, and biomedical sciences.
