Introduction

The Department of Nephrology at UMDC is dedicated to teaching and clinical care related to kidney diseases, fluid and electrolyte disorders, and hypertension. It provides essential clinical exposure to both acute and chronic renal conditions.

To develop clinicians proficient in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of renal diseases.

Mission

  • Deliver strong clinical training in nephrology
  • Integrate physiological concepts with clinical nephrology
  • Promote early detection and prevention of kidney disease

Objectives

  • Train students to evaluate patients with renal disorders
  • Understanding principles of renal replacement therapy (dialysis and kidney transplant)
  • Strengthen knowledge of fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance

  • Nephrology wards and outpatient services
  • Dialysis unit exposure
  • Laboratory support for renal investigations

Teaching & Training

The department teaches undergraduate students and also trains post graduate students in FCPS Nephrology that is accredited with CPSP. Clinical teaching includes ward rotations, bedside teaching, case presentations, and integrated discussions with basic sciences.
