The Department of Anatomy at UMDC was established in 2003 and serves as a cornerstone of foundational medical education for both MBBS and BDS students. It offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers key areas including:

  • General Anatomy
  • Histology (Microscopic Anatomy)
  • Embryology (Developmental Anatomy)
  • Regional (Gross) Anatomy
  • Neuroanatomy

A thorough knowledge of anatomy is essential for all healthcare professionals. It enables students to understand the structure and organization of the human body, laying the groundwork for future clinical practice and research.

Anatomy for MBBS Students (Years 1 & 2)

For MBBS students, Anatomy is taught over the first two years of the program. The curriculum is designed to provide:

  • A broad-based understanding of human structure
  • Detailed dissection sessions on cadavers
  • Hands-on lab work and microscopy
  • Clinical correlations to prepare students for clinical rotations

Our goal is to build a strong anatomical foundation that supports further learning in physiology, pathology, surgery, and clinical practice.

Anatomy for BDS Students (Year 1)

For BDS students, Anatomy is covered in the first academic year, with a focus on structures relevant to dental education. The program includes:

  • Fundamental human anatomy with emphasis on head and neck
  • Practical dissection and lab work
  • Histology and embryology with dental correlations

The course ensures that dental students acquire the anatomical knowledge necessary for procedures in oral surgery, prosthodontics, and other specialized dental fields.

Our Commitment

The Department of Anatomy is committed to delivering high-quality, student-centered education that meets the evolving needs of modern medical and dental curricula. We emphasize:

  • Ethical and professional development
  • Research-oriented learning
  • Leadership and critical thinking skills
  • State-of-the-art lab facilities and teaching aids

Our department welcomes all prospective students to explore the vibrant learning environment we offer. Whether you aspire to become a doctor or a dentist, your journey begins with a profound understanding of human anatomy.
