The department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics was established in 2003 at MTH, providing a high standard of care to a large number of patients each year. The department is well-furnished with the latest equipment, and modern technologies are used to deliver contemporary diagnostic, surgical, and non-surgical treatments for various dental diseases. Operative Dentistry encompasses the specialties of:
The department plays an important role in establishing the fundamental concepts of dentistry for pre-clinical (2nd and 3rd year) dental students in the phantom head lab and clinical (4th year) students in the Operative clinic. Training includes diagnosis, prevention, and various dental treatments, including repair and restorative techniques for tooth structure loss due to caries, trauma, infection, or disease. Students are taught through interactive lectures, tutorials, small group discussions, and a fun and nurturing environment.
Under the supervision of highly qualified faculty, BDS students perform their duties in the department and complete their clinical requisites. Our devoted staff help train students to develop the skills and knowledge required to manage patient treatment needs. Emphasis is also placed on ethical values, professionalism, and research work. We aim to produce dentists who are consistent in learning and competent in providing comprehensive restorative and rehabilitative treatment, thus contributing to the oral health care system.
Recently, in July 2024, the department was recognized for FCPS postgraduate training in Operative Dentistry & Endodontics by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan.
The vision of the Operative Dentistry and Endodontics department is to lead in dental education, research, and patient care by producing highly skilled, ethical, and compassionate professionals.
The department aims to provide high-quality, patient-centered care and education that enhances the general health and welfare of patients by preserving their natural teeth. The ultimate goal is to restore the health, form, function, phonetics, and aesthetics of teeth while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.
Operative Dentistry includes all procedures, including preventive measures, to conserve natural teeth and maintain the natural masticating mechanism. This includes restoring and maintaining form, function, phonetics, esthetics, occlusal re-establishment, and stability of teeth and surrounding supporting tissues. Students also learn a unique combination of psychomotor skills in a professional manner to restore the stomatognathic system and the overall welfare of the patient. We aim to produce dentists who are consistent in learning and competent in providing comprehensive restorative and rehabilitative treatment, contributing to the oral health care system.
