The department of surgery, Madinah Teaching Hospital holds a dynamic team of vibrant and dedicated doctors, assisted by highly qualified and skilled nurses and paramedics who run a ward of over 100 beds and a state of the art operation theatre complex. We are managing our patients with respect and dignity. Care of patients is our priority and we are striving to provide them with the latest and updated surgical treatment. Under the mentorship of Prof Dr AG Rehan and Prof Dr Maj (R) Abdul Rashid and currently headed by Prof Dr Irshad Ahmed, Department caters a wide range of patients, accommodating an excess of 20 thousand patients in daily OPDs and performing over 4 thousand open and laparoscopic surgeries every year. A dedicated breast clinic is an example of our commitment to solving the problem of the female population. We are serving humanity in the best possible way, as the service to humanity is service to God.

We are performing a wide range of surgical procedures e.g. laparoscopic surgeries, abdominal surgery, head and neck (thyroid) surgery, cancer patient’s surgery and most recently latest and innovative oncoplastic breast surgery. Our surgeons are doing a daily elective list and round the clock emergency cases. In the management of patients we have great support from other departments like anesthesia, medicine, radiology and pathology.
Teaching & Training of undergraduates & post graduates: Besides managing patients, our surgical team is very keen in teaching undergraduates and post graduates. We have started a modular system of teaching in which much emphasis is placed on active participation of students in small group discussion and problem based learning. One essential element of our teaching system is exposure of students to clinical cases. Also our students start learning surgical procedures in the ward and operation theatre from day one. Our fourth year and final year students also get the opportunity to assist surgical cases in Operation Theater. With the hard work and continuous supervision of our teaching faculty, our undergraduate and postgraduate results in UHS and CPSP examinations are commendable.
Research, Audit & CPD: Our unit is very efficient to keep record of patients care and management in the form of research & Audit. Each year our surgical doctors publish their research work in national and international journals and present their research work in conferences. Our faculty members are actively involved in continuous professional development (CPD), by participating in a number of national and international courses, workshops and conferences.
